When we moved back to Rochester almost 30 years ago, and I got to know my mother adult to adult, she quickly became my best friend.

Mom is one of the smartest, savviest, and most compassionate people I have ever known.

Now she has Alzheimer's and lives unwelcoming hundreds of miles away.

I miss my mommy.

My notes when I first posted this photo:

As the edges start to fade.

Her original intent had been to go on for her PhD in chemistry (she had her MS) and become a chemistry professor. She would have been extraordinary. The six of us rather changed those plans.

She was extraordinary, just not according to her original plan. She taught me how to think.

(When I went off to Wheaton College (IL) I had the same organic chemistry prof that she had had. It was a fearsome course.)

Scanned transparency converted to black and white
(The white balance and lighting were considerably less than wonderful.)
